Carlton Associates was created in 1997, as a ‘sole trader’ operation, focussing mainly on the development of National Vocational Qualifications in leisure and administration fields. It’s founder, Mike Shuff, had spent all his working life in the leisure profession, and has operational and managerial experience in the public, educational and private sectors of that industry. That experience culminated in the position of Head of Leisure Services/Contract Manager with Solihull MBC.
In 2003, Carlton Associates became a limited company; “Carlton Associates (2003) Ltd”, as it had moved on from NVQ’s into the development of training products and support for the leisure industry. This included working very closely with the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management, and the development of the ‘Supervisory Management Certificate’; the ‘Fitness Club Management Certificate’; and the ‘Operations Certificate’ (for new entries in to the industry).
Since then Carlton Associates (2003) Ltd has focussed itself on the development of training resources; support services and technical advice and support for the ‘wet leisure’ sector of this industry.
It can provide the widest range of training course within the industry, ranging from a Water Testing Workshop to the flagship, Swimming Pool Technical Operators Certificate. It has specialist courses as well, including Hot Tub Operators and Hydrotherapy Pool Operators Certificates.
It can provide advice and support on the production of safety documents; compliance auditing against industry guidance; installation and refurbishment project management; condition surveys, etc.
